Kyla fun day 3 Golden Gate Bridge

After church we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge and stopped for a couple pics. Then we drove over to Baker Beach for a picnic, but despite the sun and the waves it was too windy. Then we stopped at the ferry building and Embarcadero center for some snacks before heading home for the day. Miya and Emi were so scared of the birds who wanted to share our snacks.

fun with Kyla day 2 Berkeley

Well we ate lunch at the Turkish Kitchen, where kyla was surprised to find Peter Sellers working behind the counter. Then it was time to watch a DVD at home and then get ready for a baptism at the temple in Oakland. After the baptism (that we barely made it to on time) it was time for a stop at the historic ice cream parlor, Fenton's Creamery for dairy overload. A great day.

Fun with Kyla day 1 San Francisco

This was a guy we saw at Golden Gate Park, just doin his thang. It was really poetry in motion. I was almost brought to tears when his routine ended and the grace and beauty ceased. But we did have fun on our first day with Kyla here. We went to Japantown where Emi got in touch with her roots and Benihana shafted us. Then Golden Gate Park where Rob and Mike met up with us. OK blogger sucks it won't upload my video I will post it on our website blog.

Monterey and Santa Cruz

Well it's spring break and so we jumped in the car and headed to Monterey bay to check out the aquarium there and let the girls get back in touch with the ocean. After that we drove up to Santa Cruz on the way home. It was a long day but very fun. The girls loved it and besides riding a merry-go-round they got to hold star fish (patrick). Anyway to see all the pics go to our family website and check out the photopage.

Bring on the Pretty.Odd.

We are so excited to get the new album. Has anyone gotten it in the mail yet, the deluxe version? The other night we were listening to all the songs on Youtube where someone leaked the whole thing and we were reading the lyrics with the music. MAN, I gotta say that, for me, the lyrics are much deeper and really a lot more poetic this time. They can also seem straight forward and simple, with a lot of sunshine, summer, and happiness, but formally the lyrics are full of all the old rhetorical tricks, alliteration, assonance, meter, various rhyme schemes and some amazing metaphor (take northern downpour for example). here is a great verse aabcc rhyme scheme and all neck up metaphor lips/head/scarf when discussing the power of "playful" words that are actually destructive like moths the same discord is found in the "broken" world which is also to be called "home". It is a "fragile" capricorn which is a feminine reserved type who wouldn't usually speak much:
Through playful lips made of yarn
That fragile capricorn
Unraveled words like moths upon old scarves
I know the world's a broken bone
But melt your headaches, call it home.
Actually the imagery is still same old panic but the attention to language on this album is beautiful. Not just how to encompass an idea in words but also how the words themselves shape the image through sound. Don't worry I won't keep going, but I am digging this album before it is even in my hands. It appears to be so well constructed!

missing hawaii

We were just missing hawaii and the sun was shining and next thing I knew we were trying to tan our extremely white skin on our little balcony. Then miya came out with the camera and took some pics of her ridiculous parents. What can I say we love the sun and, well, ere comes the sun.

Happy Easter!

Today we celebrated the superficial Easter, while tomorrow, we will celebrate the real reason why we have Easter. It was fun seeing the girls find the eggs and open them. Emi went a little over board with the chocolate. She kept on sneaking more chocolate so we wouldn't see her...tricky tricky little missy!
