We are so excited to get the new album. Has anyone gotten it in the mail yet, the deluxe version? The other night we were listening to all the songs on Youtube where someone leaked the whole thing and we were reading the lyrics with the music. MAN, I gotta say that, for me, the lyrics are much deeper and really a lot more poetic this time. They can also seem straight forward and simple, with a lot of sunshine, summer, and happiness, but formally the lyrics are full of all the old rhetorical tricks, alliteration, assonance, meter, various rhyme schemes and some amazing metaphor (take northern downpour for example). here is a great verse aabcc rhyme scheme and all neck up metaphor lips/head/scarf when discussing the power of "playful" words that are actually destructive like moths the same discord is found in the "broken" world which is also to be called "home". It is a "fragile" capricorn which is a feminine reserved type who wouldn't usually speak much:Through playful lips made of yarn
That fragile capricorn
Unraveled words like moths upon old scarves
I know the world's a broken bone
But melt your headaches, call it home.
Actually the imagery is still same old panic but the attention to language on this album is beautiful. Not just how to encompass an idea in words but also how the words themselves shape the image through sound. Don't worry I won't keep going, but I am digging this album before it is even in my hands. It appears to be so well constructed!

Love it. Even though Mike and I ordered two of the Deluxe versions, they haven't come yet so we ran down to Target this morning and picked up 10 copies (you know, just in case!) Hope that the rest of the world recognizes.
right right, rhyme scheme, alliteration... I really need to work on paying attention to lyrics. I am always amazed at how much I miss when I actually focus on the words and try to listen to them more than the beat/instruments. Loving the album!
