When I think of the past I love to reminisce and reconstruct situations, conversations, and feelings in my mind. I think I am fascinated with how the past shapes the present and how we really create the present through memory, that's why I study history. But one thing I love to remember is the toys, games, and material dreams we had as kids. This is why I am so pleased that it is all so retro-ed and re-appropriated to be cool nowadays. Check out this artwork around the theme of 8-bit gaming (I just miss mario, and punch out). I remember garbage pail kids, popples, he-man, thundercats, and voltron toys. What was your favorite or desired toy as a kid? What do you miss from those beautifully bygone days? up, down, up, down, right, left, right, left, ab select start? or was it a,b,a,b, select start?

wow, I can honestly say that the majority of the artwork you posted freaks me out and if I were several years younger would be guaranteed to result in nightmares. but as far as my favorite toy as a kid, I can honestly say what immediately came to mind in a spew of red-rider-bb-gun-details was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pizza shooting van, complete of course with Leonardo, the coolest one. great point about memory...and I think that's why it freaks me out so much...what really is the past? ya know bra? ; )
hey erika!
yay, i found your blog!!! so i think my favorite toy when i was a little girl would have to be jem (from jen and the holograms) - stop making fun of me...i know there's a lot of "closet-jem-lovers" out there. fun times...and check out my blog!! =)
"Monchi chi Monchi chi oh so soft and cuddly. With their thumb in their mouth, their really neat!" Dream date barbie (she had brown skin and brown hair), easy bake oven, the snorks and Friday night videos before they had MTV (yep that's right, I'm old)
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, select, start.
What was that, Mason - a cheat code? Huh, I never needed them. Sounds fun though.
Anyway, I think your favorite toy was your "my buddy" stuffed little kid. Remember that? And then he got his face drawn on. He went from "my buddy" to the "bearded buddy".
I cant think of my favorite toy though. I did like playing Contra on the Nintendo quite a bit.
Punch Out was great too.
Way back in the day I had a pretty "kickin' impossible" collection of garbage pail kids cards. I thought those were kind of cool for a little while. Then they just became disgusting.
